At this point I can only show bits of the flower pieces I'm creating. Someday the whole pieces will be posted along with why they're being made.

Finished Flowers
The beginning steps to making these flowers is posted here. Lots of the blossoms and leaves are under the netting. Some leaves and petals are sewn to the surface leaving loose edges for an added dimension. I've based these flowers, their leaves, and growth patterns on real flowers.
The yellow flowers are Partridge Pea and the red-violet ones are Purple Poppy Mallow.
The white ones are a stalk of New Jersey Tea flowers while the others are Pale Purple Coneflowers.
And these flowers are Tall Coreopsis.

You truly have a genius for taking a sow's ear (scraps) and turning them into silk purses. Images like these are what I am hungry for, I am so ready for spring and some color!

The basically realistic flowers and the soft impressionistic background the ort work gives make a beautiful combination.
ReplyDeleteThe piece is looking good-can't wait to see the whole thing!
ReplyDeletei love the way you have let the dimension and shape of these stay natural, rather than flattening them down with stitching--marvellous realism.
ReplyDeleteYour work is absolutely beautiful!

Molto belli!...colorati!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are so lovely and a welcome for us in the north who don't see anything but brown.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea for hanging the quilts. I've been using the flat wooden strips for a while but have been sliding them into a sleeve. Silly me! the corners are soo much faster and easier.
you are a genius, Nellie!!
