Hanging Method for Small Quilts

I was so glad to discover an easier way to hang small quilts than sewing in a sleeve for a tiny dowel. I use this method to hang all my lake quilts.
The corner pockets are made from two squares of fabric ... usually the same fabric as the backing for the quilt. Fold the opposite corners together to make a triangle. Press the fold.
I sew the the pockets to the corners at the top of the quilt with a zig-zag stitch before finishing the edges of the quilt with a binding or couched yarn.

Recently, I've been using these pockets to hold a flat piece of wood at the bottom of larger quilts to help them hang flat against the wall. This pair is cut and ready to be sewn to the Smoky Mountain quilt to ensure the bottom corners won't curl out.

Thank you. What a wonderful idea. I now don't have to make sleeves anymore. I use curtain rods to hold my quilts up and this will work with them too.

Delores, I've considered this method for larger quilts as well. I think it would be necessary to sew in a tab loop(s) between the corner pockets to secure the hanging rod in a longer span on bigger quilts.

What a good idea! Thanks for sharing. I like both the top and the bottom triangles.

A wonderful idea. And I wouldn't have thought of the bottom triangles if you didn't mention it. Thanks for sharing. [I thought I posted a little bit ago, but it didn't show up. If this is a dupe. I'm sorry]

What a neat idea and I love the effect that a couched yarn gives as a border. Your 'ortwork' flower pieces are just gorgeous - real works of 'ort'!!

What a great idea! I have one quilt I am working on now that is small and I was thinking about an alternative to a sleeve. Thank you for sharing this.

I like the idea for putting it at the bottom to make them hang flat on the wall too.

Do you just hook the stick you put on it on a nail? How do you put it on the wall?

Barbara,
Most of the time the hanging stick is just hooked over a nail head. I use paint sticks to hang all the small lake series quilts as part of the recycling spirit in which they're created. On some of those I have drilled a hole for the nail head to fit through.
