ArtPrize ... and the Fun Continues!

Earlier this evening the ArtPrize entries voted into the Top 10 were announced.  Mine was not one of those.  However, I'm very happy to say "The Lake" was voted into the Top 75.  There are 1,713 entries in this exhibition.  Woo Hoo!

It pleases me greatly that my art piece is so well received.  There has been a steady stream of viewers through my venue, DeVos Place, which is a conference center in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Most stopped to study my piece.  Many were surprised it was NOT a painting.

Men, women, and children were intrigued.  An occasional viewer, most of whom were men, would lean back against the rail and contemplate for a while.  The few I asked what they were thinking, responded to the effect that they were enjoying "a moment on the beach".  One of the comments I liked hearing was, "I keep expecting the beach grass to move."

Several kids asked for my autograph.  Over the weekend there were kids who were intrigued enough to stop and watch me demonstrating my "ortwork" technique.

One of them convinced her grandmother to see the art in DeVos Place without her so she could stay and make her own lake piece.

It's been a wonderful first week.  The ArtPrize exhibition runs through October 10th.  I'll be sharing some of the other entries in future posts.

Nellie, I love the photos of the people in front of your piece. It really does look like they are standing in front of a large picture window looking out. Lovely.

Congratulations Nellie! The piece is amazing and I keep watching it to see the waves rolling in :>
That people were surprised to find that it wasn't a painting tells much. they got up close. I love that!!!

It's lovely that kids were inspired by your work to have a go themselves. Congrats on getting so far with The Lake. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the other entries.

It is a wonderful piece that I would love to view in person. Loving the beach myself, this piece captures it perfectly. Love that the girl was so interested that she wanted to make her own.

Your work is amazing and should be in the top ten. You have inspired a few of us I know. I like doing anything that shows what you can acutally "paint" with fabric. Lovely.

How wonderful to see! You look totally in your element in the photos and your Lake Piece is just outstanding up there for all to enjoy.
Wished I could have been there. This is a very interesting concept.

I heard that there was some debate about size....that the smaller pieces did not get the same attention as the larger. I found that interesting as well.
