50 YEARS LATER

It's my birthday!

How did 50 years go by so quickly?
Today I'm 71. In the photo on the right I was 21. It seems a short time ago that picture was taken. The young me seems to be looking on the older me with amusement.

"Love Me Tender Souvenir Fork"           14"x14" - 2004

I made this piece as a result of a  of cake themed round-robin exchange with SMQ's Thursday Bee group. It began with my slice of plain chocolate cake on the plate with the plaid table cloth. The fork plus its embroidery, raspberry filling, frosting, and whip cream were added by my friends. I finished it off with the raspberries and gold border mat.

Seems as though it was a much shorter time than nine years ago that it was made. Time flies when you're having fun!

That young woman can still be clearly seen in your photo. I'm 61 now and I am often fascinated when my younger self and my older self look at each other...everything changes and nothing changes. I hope on this birthday, your older self and your younger self love each other and have lots of cake!

Happy Birthday Nellie. At 21 you had a look of Audrey Hepburn and are still looking very good. Hope you are feeling as good as you look.

A very happy birthday, your two selves are both lovely and both well deserve the birthday cake -- it's a charming little quilt.

I understand. We are about to celebrate our 25th anniversary and I am totally freaked about where the time went! I hope you have a happy birthday. I would have never guessed you were 71. Guess it helps to start life looking like Audrey Hepburn.

Thank all of you for the compliments. One secret is the soft lighting in the restaurant where that photo was taken a couple of weeks ago. Otherwise, I have to credit good genes and sunscreen through the years.

Amazing how your hair is so similar too. I love both photos. Still beautiful after all these years. Happy Birthday again!

A very Happy Birthday for yesterday Nellie. I hope you had a lovely day and there's no way you look your age! Beauty comes from within and yours is still shining through.
