"The Lake" Is SOLD

I'm pleased to announce that two days ago "The Lake" was purchased by a private collector from Good Goods Gallery in Saugatuck, Michigan.
Many of you may recall that it was created for ArtPrize 2010 where it was a popular entry. It garnered enough fans to be rated in the top 75 vote getters of the 1, 713 entries that year. Since its month long exhibition at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, Michigan for ArtPrize it's been hanging in the Saugatuck gallery. For a bit more than a year it hung in the upstairs gallery on a gold colored wall. Standing in front of it felt as though you were right there on the beach.

A few months ago it was moved to the gallery room that features Sticks furniture.
It's being hung on a dark wall in a room-like setting gave it a whole new perspective. The effect was that of viewing the lake through a window. Seeing it for the first time in this setting literally took my breath away when I walked into the room.

Every time I've gone to visit it, there have been a number of people interested to hear about its creation ... and to be privy to the hidden Elvis images.
Rarely, do I become emotionally attached to my art pieces. When that happens, I gift those pieces dear to my heart to family or friends so that I can visit my creations now and then. Otherwise, it's the adventure of the creative process ... the exploring and playing that thrills me. I'm glad this piece has found a home ... but I will miss being able to visit it.

Congratulations Nellie - The Lake is stunning and worthy of a special site. I like the way it has been lit. If it was in my home I would feel it unecessary to go out! I'm sure I would sense the breeze coming off the water.

Funny how I never saw it as a window until seeing it in the room setting!! And of course the panels look like panes - wonderful Nellie!! To have that on a wall in a home, a wonderful window on the lake. Congrats on the sale and hugs to missing the work!

Hey, Nellie! Marvelous for the sale. The gallery setting for The Lake was soooo perfect, really heightened the impact of a gorgeous artwork. Also liked seeing your 3 finished mini-pieces of the lake. Lovely.

I find it interesting that you say you don't usually get emotionally attached to your pieces...I'm emotionally involved with every one, but then maybe that's because I work so slowly and process is only part of it. Hmmm.

Always a pleasure to stop by your blog and see what you're up to! best, nadia

The Lake is soooo beautiful. It's like providing someone with a deep and joyful "Meditation on a Wall" kit. Wouldn't all of us be happy to have it on our walls The people that got it are so lucky. Congratulations!

"The Lake" is going into a private collection near St. Joseph, Michigan. It was a case of the buyers immediately recognizing it as the piece of art they had been searching for a period of almost two years to place on a 2-story wall in the home they built ... there was no flinch at the price tag of $15,000.

Wouldn't you know that two days later another couple came in to purchase it for their home in Dallas, Texas after weeks of consideration. It's crazy that it hung in the gallery for over a year and half and then 2 interested buyers show up. Wonder what would've happened if they had shown up at the same time ... a bidding war perhaps?
